Creative and healthy food

Today i made a fast food inspired lunch for Mila, in looks like fast food but it so much more healthier! It is simple to make and easy and jummie to eat!

* The cheese burger was made from a peanut butter sandwich cut is circles layered with a piece of yellow        eatable paper and sprinkled with sesame seeds
* the french fries are pieces of frech mango, apple or carrot would also be great
* the ketchup is made of some strawberries I put in the blender
*the strawberry milkshake is actually a strawberry/banana/orange smoothie

I love how a bit of creativity can turn a boring lunch into something special and make kids eat their fruits& vegetables in a fun way!

Creative with food

I love making things and treating my girls with jummie and healthy food ( and some sweets too of course), it has become a tradition to make a surprise breakfast for them in the weekend or sometimes a surprise snack after school. The surprise snack/breakfast is all about presentation, sometimes just a few nice things on a pretty tray but most of the time I use a theme, with choosing a special plate or cutting a sandwich in a certain way the breakfast becomes special and fun and the kids enjoy eating it, not that they normally don't eat their food, but this way it's makes it more special and I enjoy making it ! Do you have a tradition like this? I hope the girls will take this tradition in their memories and perhaps one day will treat their children with suprise breakfasts in the weekend....

Dressing up

These last few days I have been playing around with new outfits for the dolls and rabbits, one of the things I made (together with the girls) where these glasses, these where so fun to make. We used Shrinky Dink to make them, such a fun and easy craft to do with kids. I used to make things with Shriky dink when I was about Mila's age and loved it and when I saw a packages at my favourite secondhand store for only 1 euro I just had to buy it. Cannot wait to make more small items for the dolls and rabbits so many ideas already!!!

Immer Urlaub

A little while ago I went to the opening of the store Urlaub of talented Ellen Vesters in Utrecht, the girls went with me and where excited to meet Ellen and some of the other bloggers who would attend the opening.
The shop is super nice, so many pretty products. Sofia bought a very nice book full of doodles made by Marlous de Vries and even met and talked with her!
The opening was so much fun and I met lots of lovely people and fellow bloggers and I totally forgot to take pictures of the shop. We made some gifts for Ellen to celebrate the opening of her shop, Mila made a drawing and paper camera (that I did not take pictures of) Sofia made a drawing for Ellen that we framed an I made a little shop assistent for Ellen!

by the way did I mention that Sofia was excepted at the Theatre school (film direction)
we are so proud of her!!!

D.I.Y birthday present

This rainy weekend was perfect to stay inside and do some crafting with Mila, we made a birthday present for one of her friends. We found really nice wooden owl pegs/pins (dille & Kamille) that inspired us for the colours and theme for the present. Mila drew a cute owl that we used as a template to cut out of Flock foil and iron on cotton. We sewed a bag and filled it with some nice owl goodies. Of course we had to insert Mila's own label to finish it all of!
I really like the Flock foil, it's such a cool material to work with and make the coolest designs in so little time, great for decorating t-shirts, bags, cushions and much more.... you can find it here

Meet Sofia and Mila's dad !!

This is what the girls made as a gift for Fathersday. A dress up doll of their father ;-) I must admit that he is a bit different in real life, less muscles and his wardrobe is less adventurous in real life! But I love it...I think it is so cute that I think I will ask them to make one of me as well.
Handmade gifts are the Best!!! don't you think?

A handmade Advent

This year I have started pretty late on the advent calendar for the girls, we have a garland of numbered socks to hang and to be filled but I just didn't find the time to do so. Finally yesterday when the girls came back from school they found the socks hanging in their room filled with goodies. I wanted to fill the socks with pretty little things for crafting, above you can see what I found. Some items I bought like the knitting fork, heartshaped popmpom maker, wooden star and some came from my own collection like the ribbons and zippers. To finish it off I wrapped everything in pattern paper and red and white string.
Better late than never ;-)

Be sure to come back tomorrow because I will have a very nice give away,
can't tell you much but it's from a very nice French company!!

Inspiration from Japan

Our first week of summer holiday is almost over and we enjoyed it very much, sorry for being off line for a few days but there was just not so much to blog about ;-) Today was a fun day after a nice visit from Diana and her very cute daughters we went to the Kunsthal to visit the exposition Colour in my Hand by Japanese artist Ayako Rokkaku. We loved the expo, so much colour and cute paintings and the cardboard house ...... my fingers started to itch (kriebelen) and I wanted to get some paint and make my own. Luckily for me and the girls they made a studio where you can see Ayako paint her paintings (she paints with her hands, no brushes involved) and get your own hands dirty (or you can wear plastic gloves) and make your own fantasy world. We left with our wet paintings and a head full ideas...

Perfect for a rainy day...

It's raining here all day long, what better way to spend your day inside and do some craft. Yesterday I found a great site with lots of tutorials to make origami figures, very well explained with animations that you can stop and play forward and backwards. You should visit the site and take a look, I think you'll be hooked just like me and the girls...

Spring colours

Lots of sun in our garden, a perfect moment for taking some pictures of the colourful object the girls and their friends created in their holiday. They will be selling these at a fondraising day at their school to collect money for children in Sierra Leone working in the diamond inustry. I helped out a bit with ideas and sewing the bags (old table cloths) but they did most of it themselves!! I think and hope they will raise a nice amount, the market is at the end of the month and of course I will keep you posted on their succes!
***
We collected glass jars and filled them with colourful craft materials and they decorated them with fabric tape.
***
The bags we made of old tablecloths, the handles are made by the girls out of fabric strips, we found this idea at the very pretty and creative blog Cakies

Houses and garlands

I'm in love with houses lately....not normal houses to live in but minature, paper, sweet houses. I wanted to show you these white paper houses Mila and Sofia made for christmas, we put a fake tea light in the middle and that gives such a great effect in the evening. The felt garland they made for the wintermarket and in the jars are felt pieces and thread to make your own garland (little stickers are drawn by Mila) The houses are quite simple to make but if anyone likes me to make a small tutorial just let me know!

Sewing boxes

The girls had birthday parties to attend this weekend and gifts where needed, we arranged these sewing boxes, I made little pincushions and the girls helped with winding the threads and ribbons around the cardstock. I bought some really sweet "punnik" dolls( I don't know the english word ;-) and sweet suitcases in matching colours. I think this is such a fun thing to give to girls and what I like is that you can make this in any price range. For the dutch readers, I found the punnik-dolls at Xenos they have some really sweet things there at the moment!
