Grey weather...colourful projects

Here it's rainy grey weather but inside we did some colourful projects. Friday Mila was free from school so we decided to make some cakepops, we had lots of fun, crumbling the cake and mixing it with the frosting, these are the ones who came out the best! You can go here and see how the pro's do it! On saturday there was a package in the mail all the way from Australia with inside an early present for Mila, a teatowl with the birds of Australia, too pretty to use as a teatowel but perfect to make into a nice curtain for her reading corner!

Look what I found!

Sometime ago I visited a local secondhand store with Mila and looking for vintage bird things and look what we found, a really nice wooden sewingbox on wheels. The box was filled with a lot of junk but also some intresting things. The box needs some work and perhaps some paint to.

I made some new remnant sets for my shop, this set contains cotton screenprinted fabrics in blue and white with paris print, great to make a cushion for example. There are only a few in the shop, you can find them here.

The cat who loves birds....

I'm busy working on designing two new doll/creature sets, one is almost finished ( will keep it a secret for now) and for the other set I'm thinking of making a cat and since we are all about birds here in this house lately I thought why not make a cat who likes birds. I made a cat using the rabbit set and started to add details with marker, still not sure about where it will end, I like the idea of a little fabric cage that he/she can carry around and as an extra a little fabric bird you can make.

Last week I met Miho ( one of the ladies of Driehoek who made the book Dutch interiors). Miho brought a little paper bag for me, although most of the goodies went to my girls straight away ;-) I love the look and packages of these japanese goodies.

Weekend painting

In the weekend we ( Mila, Sofia and I) made these bird paintings as decoration for Mila's party, it was total coincidence that the branch on my painting (left) connects to the one on Mila's painting ;-)

Birds and feathers

Monday again and I'm sitting behind the computer with tea and a homemade sugar cookie that I baked in the weekend. Our weekend was full with crafting, baking and house shores. I tryed to find nice cookie cutters in the shape of birds, feathers and birdhouses, but didn't find something I really liked so I wanted to try if I could cut them free-hand, I made a paper bird shape and also a feather and cut out the cookies, it wasn't as difficult as I thought. After baking I decorated them with royal icing, Mila was very happy how they looked (and tasted) and ordered a bunch for her birthday.

New Stockist

Yesterday I met Miho at BonBon at the Block, a very trendy kidsstore in Rotterdam. It was nice meeting Miho and her friends and also a good moment to take pictures from the shop and my dolls/rabbit +sets! Since last week BonBon on the Block stocks my products and I really like how they are displayed them in the shop! ( did you see the rabbit on the swing?)If you are in the Rotterdam area you should visit this shop because they offer some really cool brands like Bobo Choses and Mini Rodini.

Oh la la...

I've told you before and I will tell you again I really enjoy seeing the doll/ rabbits you make of the sets I screenprinted, this one is made by Holly from the very creative blog Chez Beeper Bebe and it's so cute ( Sofia and Mila saw these pictures and loved it and asked for more clothes and of course croissants for their dolls!!) The outfit Holly made is super, the short blue jacket and the legwarmers and the tiny croissant and baguette love it all...

My turn now....

One of the things I like of these themed parties is that we ( the kids & moi) learn a lot from it, we bought some vintage bird books (and borrowed a great one too) and now we start to know the names and really love drawing them. It has been a long time ago that I drew birds and used aquarel but it has been so much fun. I totally forgot how I love working with this medium and I'm sure I will start to use it more often. We have put a lot of bird food in the garden and love watching our visitors, I hope they decide to stay and build a little nest like last year!

Hella

Last week I visited the Hella Jongerius expo in Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam with the girls and we loved it, so much beauty, love for colour and texture...really inspiring. Here you can see a small film about Hella too. If you are in the Rotterdam area and love design you should take a look (untill feb 13.) I'm off to go with Mila and her class on a school trip to an other museum today, a kids museum called Villa Zebra on a great location in Rotterdam.
